19:1 Nahash. I Chronicles 19 is essentially the same as II Samuel 10. See note on I Chronicles 17:1. Nahash had reigned over the Ammonites for over fifty years, since the early days of Saul (I Samuel 11:1). Though he had fought against Saul, he had apparently befriended David.
